Embiid received French citizenship
One of the best basketball players in the world, Philadelphia 76ers centre Joel Embiid officially received French citizenship and will be able to represent that country at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. Embiid, who was born in the capital of Cameroon, Yaounde, received French citizenship because his parents had previously become French citizens.
Last season, Embiid was among the three finalists for the NBA Most Valuable Player with averages of 30.6 points, 11.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists. Back in 2016, he contacted the French basketball federation with the intention of performing at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. However, then the idea was met with resistance from other national team members. France won silver at last year's Tokyo Olympics, losing in the final match to the United States of America.
