Julio Rodríguez is one of the rookies whose game shows a lot of promise
After Julio Rodríguez had a great season, it is clear that his ambitions are growing. The incredible center fielder crushed his 20th homer in a 3-1 loss. Combined with 23 stolen bases, that increased his chances of winning the AL Rookie of the Year award.
This is only the 10th 20-22 season in Mariners history accomplished by only five players Mike Cameron, Ken Griffey Jr., Alex Rodríguez, Phil Bradley, and Ruppert Jones. Furthermore, Julio Rodríguez overtook Mike Trout as one of the fastest players to do so.
Only three other AL/NL rookies have achieved a 20-22 season during their first year in the big leagues. They are Marty Cordova, Ellis Burks, and Mitchell Page. Julio is just the ninth player 21 or younger with a 20-22 season, joining Ronald Acuña Jr., Mike Trout, Justin Upton, Andruw Jones, Alex Rodríguez, César Cedeño, Orlando Cepeda, and Vada Pinson.
Despite the experience of only 107 games and his youth, Julio has improved his way of playing. Julio stated several times during the season that he does not set limits for himself. He has 38 games left to smash 10 homers and steal seven bags in the process to join the special 30-30 club.
