John Metchie diagnosed with a serious illness
It is increasingly likely that John Metchie will not be able to play the new season since he was diagnosed with leukemia. John Metchie probably won't be able to play the rookie season, but the good news is that he was diagnosed with a curable form of cancer, in other words, Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia.
The main focus of this player will be recovery, after which he will be able to think about active training. Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia is a blood cancer known for an enlarged type of immature blood cells or promyelocytes. He was diagnosed with APL during the 2021 season.
John Metchie was drafted by Texas in 2022 under number 44. The former Alabama player totaled 96 receptions for 1,142 yards and scored eight touchdowns during his junior season.
John has roots in Nigeria and Taiwan. As a child, he moved with his family to Canada, after which they went to the United States, where he attended St. James. As a freshman at Alabama in 2019, he played in all 13 games where he had four catches for 23 yards.
Soon he became one of the three best Alabama receivers and the first Canadian receiver to win the Jon Cornish Trophy. Even though he is not currently on the field, it is believed that he will soon return even stronger and better.
